Moana Surfrider
Since the 1800s Waikiki has been the retreat of the Hawaiian nobility. Over time, more and more foreign dignitaries and people of note began to stay in Waikiki. Originally they stayed in guest houses built by the Hawaiian Royalty on the beach. In 1901 the beautiful white hotel now known as the Moana Surfrider was constructed right on Waikiki Beach. This hotel was the first hotel in Waikiki. Some distinguished guests included Agatha Christie and King Edward VIII. Generations of people have stayed at the Moana Surfrider, and ownership has changed hands over the years, but one thing is sure. The Moana Surfider will continue to be the “Grand Old Lady of Waikiki” for many more years to come.
